Two hours outside of Brasilia, the capital of Brazil, is the small town of Abadiânia where white is the predominant color of clothing and the “Entities” is a term that flows throughout the streets. John of God, or Medium João de Deus as he is known in Abadiânia, is known to all. People travel from all over the world to the Casa de Dom Inacio (“House of Ignatius”). For 52 years and counting, “miracles” have been happening around the unassuming Brazilian who takes no credit for them. John of God’s mission is to provide help to anyone who asks for it, completely free of charge. The stories of John of God’s healing miracles are not hard to come by: tumors that have disappeared after a “surgery” performed by John of God, cataracts that vanish, broken heart and psyches mended. People visit the Casa with any number of physical, psychological, and emotional maladies with the hope of being healed by the metaphysical power of John of God. There are numerous books, articles, and videos attesting to the healing power of the entities through John of God. The works of John of God are featured in the recently released December issue of Oprah’s O Magazine, as well as on the November 17th episode of Oprah.
